Our Facilities and Resources
Located in room B223 the lower level of the middle wing of Sproul Hall, the Video Production Unit's (VPU) studios and production facilities serve a variety of purposes.
Studio A is 38′ x 38′ “black box” television studio with the capability to do live broadcasts. Its features include:
- A three-camera switching, six-wireless microphone system
- A professional lighting grid
The studio can be used for a variety of purposes, including tapings of theatre productions, webcasts and interviews.
Studio B is the smaller of the two studios, measuring just 12′ x 25′. On camera, however, it can appear as almost infinite in size thanks to its “cyclorama” design. The room has no corners, is painted blue, and features specialized lighting that creates the illusion of infinity. It is suitable for blue screen and chroma key applications.
The studio is the home of the UCR’s Experts on Demand video program, which utilizes the AT&T Hollywood Hub to enable television news agencies around the world to interview UCR faculty live for immediate broadcast.
The control room is the source for rebroadcasting of the UC Systemwide’s UCTV Channel on Charter Communication channel 95. The control room has complete post-production capabilities, two work stations utilizing Final Cut Pro and a variety of ancillary software.
The VPU has a full complement of equipment for the production of broadcast quality content at any location away from the studio. These include:
- Camcorders
- Microphones
- Lights
- Rigging
